Eamon's Fight World News

Hello my fellow Beijing fight fans! I'm Eamon and I'm pleased to introduce this new weekly column to keep you up to date on the latest Boxing and MMA news from around the world! I'll be trying to make this column available weekly so watch this space!

Danny Garcia takes on Keith Thurman for Welterweight supremacy on March 4, 2017.

Boxing News

  • Next Saturday, March 4th, (Sunday 10:00am Beijing time) we have 2 GREAT fights to look forward to! Keith Thurman vs Danny Garcia in a welterweight unification fight and David Haye vs Tony Bellow in a UK bragging rights fight! My predictions: David Haye KOs Bellew in the early rounds and I'm not even gonna try make a guess on the Garcia vs Thurman fight. Just sit back and enjoy it.

  • Manny Pacquiao VS Amir Khan. Boys, it looks like its going down in the UAE in May/June. More on this story next week...

  • WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is back in action tonight against Gerald Washington (Who?). It's good to have the brown bomber back. I think it's fair to say he needs to get a fight against a top heavyweight or he will be regarded as just another titlist and not champ..

  • Lucian Bute, the former dominant IBF 168lb champion, was knocked out in the 5th round of a WBC title eliminator by contender Eleider Alvarez. Bute has never looked the same since he traveled to England in 2012 and lost by brutal TKO courtesy of The Cobra Carl Froch. Time to retire champ. You've had a good career.

  • Oscar De La Hoya and his favourite son Canelo Alvarez have been talking a lot this week about Mayweather vs McGregor (which hasn't been signed nor agreed to, yet) being a disrespect to boxing. Hey Oscar, giving Canelo cherry-picked catchweight fights for 5 years and then handing a title over to GGG is A LOT worse than anything Mayweather or McGregor have ever done to the sport. I remember when ODL first became a promoter and said he wanted to take the sport back to it's glory days, that went well....

UFC 209 features some amazing fights.

MMA News

  • UFC 209 next Saturday! Woodley vs Thompson and Ferguson vs Nurmagomedov! Folks, it doesn't get any better than this! Both fights are two close to call ! One fight will give us a definitive champ at WW and the other fight will give us a legitimate no.1 contender at LW. The real question is, which card to we watch on the laptop and which one on TV ? Boxing or UFC?

  • GSP is back !!! GSP has signed a new deal with the UFC and he is now in talks with Dan White about who they would like to see him step back into the octagon against. The early bets are on for Michael Bisping or the Woodley/Thompson 2 winner.

  • Travis Browne was brutally KO'd by "The Black Beast" Derrick Lewis last weekend. Is it time for Browne to retire or change trainers? I dont know, but something needs to change. Derrick Lewis does not play around, that guy goes for the ko each and every time he throws a punch...

  • Cody Garbrandt has revealed that Dominick Cruz turned down a rematch with him, apparently Cruz wants to "wait". Whatever that means, i'm sure he's gonna be an interested spectator at Cody's fight against no.1 contender TJ Dillashaw in June.

That's all for this week folks ! See you next week after the crazy weekend of fights we have ahead of us!

Keep on swinging,
